On Friday 28th August, AATD Victoria hosted a most successful conference for Teachers of the Deaf and allied professionals at the Manningham Function Centre in Doncaster. VDEI was a proud supporter of this important professional learning event and provided funding to ensure that all costs were met by AATD.  The conference was attended by more than 200 delegates and was opened by Professor Field Rickards, Dean of the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Professor Rickards has played a vital role in deaf education in Victoria, so it was very fitting that he gave the opening address.  Keynote speakers were Dr Andy Cornes, whose presentation focused on mental health issues for deaf students and Dr Teresa Ching, who reported on the current data from the LOCHI study, with particular reference to Victorian outcomes.  Eight presentations were given by Teachers of the Deaf and were a valuable way of showcasing a range of programs and strategies being used across Victoria, with practical suggestions for teachers to implement in their specific workplaces.
