Teachers and professionals working with students with hearing loss participated in a dynamic, highly interactive workshop entitled ‘Communication Skills for Professionals’ with psychologist Robynne Moore on Friday 1 August at VDEI.

This was day one of a two day workshop, the primary focus being ‘Maintaining the conversation – listening and responding’.  Robynne discussed the skills required to work well with colleagues and families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.  Later she moved on to listening exercises on responding accurately to the content and feelings in client utterances.

Day 2 will be held on Friday 15 August and will be about ‘Managing feelings, values and emotions’.

Dr Robynne Moore has over 40 years of practising psychology, much of that time in education, both here and overseas.  Robynne works as a counselling psychologist in private practice.  She has vast experience working with children and families, where disability is present and has run a number of skills training courses for professionals who work in early intervention.
