The Victorian Deaf Education
Institute (VDEI) is pleased to welcome Dr Stacey Tucci for a special twilight
event. Stacey is working with VDEI as part of an online literacy project, which
is currently in development and due for completion late in 2016.
The twilight presentation will
be held in the VDEI Learning Centre on Tuesday 24 May. The topic is Literacy
Strategies for Teachers of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students: Visual
Phonics/Cued Articulation, Speechreading and Fingerspelling
Stacey is currently the director of Georgia Pathway to Language
and Literacy, a state-wide coalition working with private and public agencies
to ensure all children in Georgia who are deaf and hard of hearing are on a
path to reading proficiency by 3rd grade. Her experience in Deaf Education
has seen her use many modalities, including Spoken English, American Sign
Language (ASL), and sign-supported English (CASE or Conceptually Accurate
Sign(ed) English). Stacey’s research and curriculum development has focused on
early literacy instruction and abstract thought development for children who
