​​​​​Findings from the 2015 VDEI Open Sector Research Grant will be presented at this special twilight event on Tuesday 6 September 2016 at VDEI. 

Creating a Sound Start to Literacy: Creating a Sound Start to Literacy: How Tablet-Based Intervention Can Improve Phonological Awareness Skills of Pre-Schoolers who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing?​

Dr Megan Gilliver and Research Speech Pathologist Jodie Belshaw from Australian Hearing Services, research division, National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL) will present on the findings from the research which focussed on:

  • is parent-led delivery of a tablet-based phonological awareness (PA) program effective for pre-schoolers with a hearing loss?
  • what type of support do parents find beneficial for delivering tablet-based PA programs?

Evidence will be provided regarding PA instruction for children who are DHH, including important insights into the benefits and barriers facing home-based intervention programs. ​
