In response to ongoing difficulties with the provision of suitable support structures for deaf and hard of hearing students in Gippsland, VDEI has been running an ELKLAN program in partnership with staff in the Gippsland region.

ELKLAN is an accredited speech and literacy support program for educational support staff who provide oral language and literacy support in classrooms.

This course is suitable for ES staff assistants working with deaf and hard of hearing children aged between five and eleven, but also may be applicable for staff working with older students with delayed language skills.

Presenter Helen Harrington-Johnson, experienced speech pathologist, audiologist and accredited ELKLAN trainer, presented the workshops.

The first day of the workshop took place at the Gippsland Regional Office (Cnr Kirk and Haigh Street, Moe) Wednesday 20 June 2012 from 9am – 4 pm.

The next workshop will be run in October 2012. It is fully booked and a waiting list has been created.
