The Victorian Deaf Education Institute (VDEI) is seeking professionals in Victoria currently working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in specialist schools, deaf facilities, early intervention centres or as a visiting teacher to join an exciting professional learning opportunity: Leadership Program 2015-16. This program is open to those working in both Department of Education and Training (DET) and non DET settings.

This program is broken into two parts.

Part one: enables aspiring or new leaders in deaf education to participate in a structured professional learning course to develop their leadership skills. Potential participants are required to identify a structured leadership course appropriate to their learning needs. Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership offers a wide range of courses which should meet most participant's learning needs. If accepted into the Leadership Program 2015-16, it is the participant's responsibility using the funding provided to enrol in the nominated course.

Part two: enables participants to undertake five days of observation at specialist settings with current leaders in the field. The five day professional learning/observation program will be developed by VDEI in collaboration with the Victorian Deaf Education Network. Participants are expected to participate fully in the five day program.

Who would benefit from this opportunity?

This program has been specifically designed for professionals working in the field who have recently begun a leadership role or anticipate moving into a leadership role in the near future.

What will I learn?

This program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to undertake a structured leadership course and five days of professional learning/observation in specialist centres.

How is this time structured?

The duration of the structured leadership course will vary and is dependent on the course identified by participantsIn addition there will be five days of professional learning/observation in specialist centres spread over 2015-16. 

What information will I need to complete the Expression of Interest form? 

  • ​The name of the professional learning program in which you would like to enrol. 
  • A list of 5 facilities/schools/settings you would like to visit as part of the program
  • A summary of your reasons for applying for the Leadership Program (250 characters max)
  • A summary of the benefit to you of participating in the Leadership Program (250 characters max).
  • A summary of the benefits to the sector by you participating in the Leadership Program (250 characters max).


What costs are covered in the Leadership Program? 

  • ​​Leadership course cost and associated casual replacement teacher (CRT) cost. 
  • CRT costs for the five day observation program.
