This 1 day workshop will provide an in-depth analysis of a student's level of speech listening, and cognitive ability and explore a variety of auditory resources available on-line. Participants will get an opportunity to practice teaching auditory goals across all levels and learn specific auditory-verbal strategies. Participants will be asked to bring one student file with them to analyse the auditory functioning level and write goals to move the student to the next level.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will:
  1. Evaluate a variety of auditory hierarchies and outline the pros and cons of at least three;
  2. Gather data from case files and determine the child’s current functioning level in audition and set goals for the subsequent stage;
  3. Practice teaching audition goals and integrate specific auditory-verbal strategies during role play activities.

PRESENTER – Cheryl L. Dickson  

Cheryl L. Dickson is an international leader in Auditory-Verbal practice. A Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist, Cheryl has over 30 years of experience in the field of childhood hearing loss and teaching spoken language through listening. A member of the first group to achieve Auditory-Verbal Certification, Cheryl continues to share her passion for children with hearing loss and their families learning to listen and talk by mentoring professionals around the world so that they too can become LSLS Certified. Cheryl is the immediate past president of the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language, Washington, and has previously dedicated five years on the Certification Committee shaping the Academy guidelines and standards for the current LSLS certification. Additionally she has served as a consultant to listening and spoken language programs throughout the world and is the founder and past Director of the CLASP Auditory-Verbal Centre in Manila, Philippines. An accomplished mentor, consultant, trainer, and Cert. Auditory-Verbal Therapist (AVT), Cheryl has authored many publications including the Cochlear Ltd publications: "Tracking a Listening Child (TLC)", A Clinician’s Guide – Adult Expectations" and "Sound Foundation for Babies", a practical resource of yearly lessons and activities for parents who are seeking a listening and spoken language outcome for their baby who may not have access to a spoken language specialist. She also contributed to the 50 FAQs and 101 FAQs about AV Therapy by AG Bell, as well as numerous other publications.
