​​​This session on interventions will introduce participants to a model of functional behaviour assessment called Prevent-Teach-Reinforce. This model uses a team-based, collaborative approach to developing behaviour support plans for students who require individualised responses to behaviours of concern. Attendees will work through the model using case examples.  ​​

​​​​​The Department of Education and Training, in collaboration with Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE), are delivering professional learning sessions to continue to support schools who have previously undertaken training in School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). Dr Shiralee Poad (MGSE) will present six topics in SWPBS designed to provide additional capabilities and extend programs within existing SWPBS schools. A further two topics on Functional Behaviour Assessment and School Refusal will be delivered in workshop format by Dr Lisa McKay-Brown (MGSE) and co-facilitated by Travencore School.

PRESENTERS

 Dr Shiralee Poed is a Lecturer in Learning Intervention in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne.  For over 25 years, Shiralee has worked as a teacher in Australian State, Catholic and Independent Primary, Secondary and Special schools as well as in various senior educational roles. Prior to commencing at the University of Melbourne in 2011, Shiralee was a lecturer in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Griffith University.  Her teaching and research interests include disability discrimination law, educational provisions for students with disabilities, and positive behavioural interventions and supports.  Shiralee regularly facilitates SWPBS training in schools settings.

DLisa McKay-Brown is a Senior Lecturer in Learning Intervention at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne where she is program coordinator of the Master of Learning Intervention. Prior to this, Lisa was a leading teacher at Travancore School, a mental health focussed special education setting. Lisa has over 25 years' experience working in education, including primary, secondary and special education settings, and specialist alcohol and other drug services.  Lisa is currently involved in research projects focusing on help seeking by adolescents for alcohol use and mental health, wraparound interventions for re-engaging severe school refusers, and including the voice of students with mental health diagnoses in their education. Lisa has experience as an external SWPBS coach for metropolitan schools in the north-western and south-western regions.​

The closest train station to VDEI is the Prahran station, on the Sandringham line.​
The closest tram stops are Tram Stop 27 (cnr St Kilda Road and High Street) and Tram stop 28 (cnr Punt Road and High Street).

Unfortunately, there is no parking available on site at VDEI. There are two options available:
Metered street parking is available on St Kilda Road and High Street; and
