Since 1993 Dr Christine Monikowski has held the position of Professor at the Department of ASL and Interpreting Education at Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Christine is one of the few interpreter educators in the U.S. who is truly immersed in and knowledgeable about Deaf Culture. Dr Monikowski holds a PhD in Educational Linguistics from the University of New Mexico and Master’s degrees in Counselling and Linguistics. She is currently a Fulbright Specialist Roster candidate for the Council for International Exchange of Scholars and is visiting Australia and New Zealand in this capacity. The publication of the article Perceptions of efficacy of K-12 interpreters was one of the first documented research projects which addressed the perspectives of interpreters working in the K-12 classroom in the U.S.A.
