The most valuable resource a school has is its teachers.  This is especially true in the sphere of deaf education where teachers undergo specialist additional training that develops teachers knowledge, skills and strategies. This project aimed to increase teachers and support staff skills in:
  • Understanding the developmental nature of speech, listening and language
  • Administering rests and assessments
  • Setting goals from assessments
  • Developing reading competencies, particularly answering inferential comprehension questions
  • Integrating goals into mainstream classes

As a result staff:
  • Have further developed their skills in administering assessment tools and interpreting results
  • Regularly assess students, language, literacy and listening and speech skills
  • Use assessments to formulate individual goals
