Eastern Metropolitan Region, Visiting Teacher iPad trial

The aim of this project was to purchase and trial iPads as a communication and learning tool and to provide an opportunity for visiting teachers to develop skills in using this new technology.

All VTs are currently using iPads to support student engagement and learning.  Many iPad apps have been shared during Team Meetings and success has been celebrated.  Particular emphasis has been placed on speech apps (which are more engaging than worksheets and provide feedback via voice recordings) and listening, language and writing apps.

The project has been successful in a number of ways, the use of iPads:

  • Reduces the equipment to be carried for individual sessions
  • Has replaced the use of video camera for language sample recordings
  • Are used to make student presentations to teachers, parents and other students
  • Record student work and take photographs
