The Victorian Deaf Education Institute partners with various tertiary institutes to conduct specialist research. The aim is to provide a strong evidence base for best practice models for teaching and learning in this specialist area. Supporting the link between research and practice ensures that VDEI remains at the forefront of innovative thinking and practice.

VDEI manages and leverages grant applications and research scholarships. It also conducts informal research to determine the research needs of the sector by collating and reviewing industry publications; the use of surveys; feedback from stakeholders, teachers, families and students; academic recommendations and coordinating the participation of deaf educators in research.
