In August, VDEI will host a live webinar with Dr Teresa Ching, a Senior Research Scientist at the National Acoustic Laboratories. Dr Ching will provide an update on the Longitudinal Outcomes of Children with Hearing Impairment (LOCHI) study, a population-based longitudinal study tracking the outcomes of children who are deaf or hard of hearing as they grow up.
The LOCHI study has prospectively evaluated the development of approximately 460 children across QLD, VIC and NSW, who were born between 2002 and 2007. Information has been collected at 6 and 12 months after intervention and again at ages 3, 5 and 9 years. Dr Teresa Ching will present on the research findings to date in relation to children's speech and language skills, literacy and numeracy skills, academic achievement, psycho-social development, and cognition.
