Overview
In 2018 and 2019, the Department of Education and Training worked in partnership with La Trobe University to deliver full day and half day Learning Difficulties including Dyslexia workshops for the Victorian education workforce. The half day presentation was converted to video format to ensure ongoing access to the information. This was sectioned into three modules with 12 videos in total (each approximately 15 minutes long).
The presentation series investigates theoretical components including the science of reading, the simple view of reading model and cognitive load theory. It delves into evidence-based instructional practices such as explicit instruction, systematic synthetic phonics and response-to-intervention. It also provides information about classroom adjustments to support students with reading challenges.
