Supporting autistic students

Course learning objectives

• Learn about the key characteristics of autism & their impact in the classroom
• Learn about positive behaviour support
• Collaborate with others to share ideas
• Understand how assessments can be used to determine student skills, including those areas requiring intervention
• Practice setting student goals
• Learn a range of strategies to support autistic students & consider how they may be applied in different situations
• Know where to access & use a suite of resources & supports

Course requirements

• Complete the pre- and post-course evaluations
• Engage with the online course content (approximately 1-2 hours per week)
• Collaborate with others and reflect on your learning
• Apply learning via two practical learning activities
• Consolidate knowledge with two x 1 hour face-toface/virtual sessions

Time commitment

• 8 weeks (course duration)
• 20 hours of professional learning (contributes towards VIT registration requirements)
