This course aims to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in supporting primary students with learning difficulties.

Course learning objectives

  • Explore the science of reading & how it is reflected in Victoria’s approach to teaching reading F-2
  • Review the key components of how students learn captured in the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model 2.0.
  • Consider the typical signs & symptoms
  • Explore a range of screening, diagnostic and progress monitoring tools
  • Delve into a range of strategies & adjustments
  • Become familiar with assistive technology options & understand the importance of individualised selection & ongoing support

Course requirements

  • Complete the pre- and post-course evaluations
  • Engage with the online course content (approximately 1-2 hours per week)
  • Collaborate with others and reflect on your learning
  • Apply learning via a course workbook
  • Consolidate knowledge with two x 1 hour face-to-face/virtual sessions
